PRIME Internship

What is PRIME?

Many schools have internships, but only Huntington University has PRIME, a life-changing extended ministry experience.

PRIME, or Practical Research and Immersion for Ministry Effectiveness, is a seven-month, full-time, off-campus ministry internship for ministry students during their senior year. Huntington University has been sending out students on PRIME Experiences for decades, and our graduates have repeatedly told us that PRIME was one of the most transformative and meaningful experiences of their college career.

What will I do?

First, you will take specific courses in the Ministry and Missions and Bible and Region curriculum to build a solid base of practical and knowledge. Then, you’ll work with Huntington University faculty to determine where you will complete your field ministry. Once you embark on your PRIME experience, you will connect with an experienced ministry leader who will work closely with you throughout your internship.

For the next seven months, you will work full-time in ministry, learning about church leadership and taking on responsibility that will closely mirror what you want to pursue after graduation.

Few other programs can offer you the immersive field ministry experience that comes with PRIME. Our grads are prepared for full-time ministry when they graduate because they have already had practice — all under the support and careful supervision of ministry leaders.

Students must complete a PRIME application and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA in their major and overall 2.0 GPA to participate in PRIME.

Where will I go?

With the help of Huntington University faculty to find the location and organization that meets your goals. The possibilities are numerous!

Foresters have completed their PRIME experiences in at least 33 countries, 34 states, and the District of Columbia. They have served in churches, large and small, with a variety of backgrounds:

  • United Brethren
  • Southern Baptist
  • Lutheran
  • Methodist
  • Assembly of God
  • Church of God
  • Presbyterian
  • Evangelical Free
  • Non-denominational
  • And more!

The choices of where to work go beyond churches, too. Christian mission, nonprofit, and parachurch organizations have also hosted Foresters.

  • Christian schools
  • Community services
  • Publishers
  • Juvenile justice facilities
  • Orphanages
  • Recovery programs

If you are a pastor of director of ministry interested in providing a PRIME Experience opportunity, we would be happy to provide you with more information.
