Degree Information

Commencement exercises for students in Graduate programs are held annually in mid-May and for some programs in mid-August. Credential students do not participate in the official graduation ceremony but have a separate ceremony the week of graduation.

Clinical Mental Health Counseling Graduation Requirements

All graduate clinical mental health counseling students, completing the 60 credit hours format, must complete the following to be eligible for graduation and to meet the educational requirements for licensure in Indiana. 

  • 45 credit hours of foundation coursework
  • 6 credit hours of mental health concentration
  • 9 credit hours of clinical training
  • Submit an application for graduation form by December 1 of the academic year of graduation
  • Attend the commencement exercises for the conferral of the degree

This is a total of 60 credit hours, which includes 700 hours of clinical experience (required for licensure). (Half of these hours must be direct client contact.)

All graduate programs must be completed within seven years. Failure to complete the program within the allotted seven years may result in a need to retake classes.

Clinical Counseling Studies Graduation Requirements

All graduate clinical counseling studies students, completing the 48 credit hours format, must complete the following to be eligible for graduation. (The Clinical Counseling Studies degree does not meet Indiana licensure requirements.)

  • 33 credit hours of foundation coursework
  • 6 credit hours of mental health concentration
  • 9 credit hours of clinical training
  • Submit an application for graduation form by December 1 of the academic year of graduation
  • Attend the commencement exercises for the conferral of the degree

This is a total of 48 credit hours, which includes 700 hours of clinical experience. (Half of these hours must be direct client contact.)

Mental Health Studies Graduation Requirements

By permission, students may complete the master of arts in mental health studies. All graduate mental health studies students, completing the 48 nonclinical hours, must complete the following to be eligible for graduation.

  • 42 credit hours of foundation coursework
  • 6 credit hours of mental health concentration
  • Submit an application for graduation form by December 1 of the academic year of graduation
  • Attend the commencement exercises for the conferral of the degree

This is a total of 48 credit hours but does not include clinical hours required for licensure.
